Department for Education
Updated 3rd September 2021 – applicable to educational establishments in England.
The DfE recognises the significant benefits of educational visits for children’s educational development, as well as their mental health and wellbeing, and is taking steps to allow children to enjoy visits in line with the government’s roadmap.
The DfE have provided up-to-date guidance on:
- Domestic educational day visits and new bookings for domestic residential educational visits can now be made.
- From 6th September 2021, international educational visits can resume and new bookings for future international educational visits can be made.
International school trips – if you live in England, the rules from 17th May 2021 are as follows:
- Advice will be to check the red, amber, and green list rules for entering England.
- If you have had a full vaccine course (2 doses), you will be able to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status to enter some countries and territories. Once agreements are in place, you will be able to check our Travel Advice entry requirements to see if the country that you plan on travelling to accepts this proof of vaccinated status.

Future travel plans
With our new educational trips service, and with many organisations in the academic sector thinking about travel again, safety and wellbeing continues to be a major priority for us.
One way in which we’re providing peace of mind is our partnership with Sherpa. The platform provides you with the most up-to-date information on a country’s COVID-19 travel requirements, from testing and quarantines to vaccination information. Users can access Sherpa in a single click from anywhere within Diversity Travel’s online booking tools, making it easy to find the information you need during the booking process.
In addition, we have also launched our new customer-facing portal and app for all of our group bookers. This system enables the trip leader, departmental finance, and admin teams to house all trip correspondence (generated from the planning process through to payment and ticketing) in one central portal. Then, just upload the app onto your mobile phone and say goodbye to those ‘paper-based’ pre-departure and ticketing wallets – the app will send you reminders and update you on the day-to-day activities and timings within your itinerary.
While COVID-19 has had a huge impact on travel, we’re seeing some green shoots within the industry. It’s the perfect time to start thinking about educational trips for the future.
Our Study Trips experts are here to answer any questions or concerns that you might have in the meantime. Whether you’re thinking about planning a field trip to inspire your students or would like to know more about the COVID-19 safety measures we have in place, do not hesitate to get it touch with us.
