Arrival & Viking Sailing Ship boat trip

In the afternoon, get into the Norwegian spirit with a Viking Sailing Ship boat trip

Step back in time with a 2-hour sail aboard Bergen’s most traditional tour boat. The square sailed vessel, Storskarven, represents Viking ship-building and design that has been passed down through the ages in Norway. Aboard you will admire the elegant construction of the overlapping wooden planks and smell the aromas of ancient wood preservation methods. Feel the exhilaration of the ship’s square sail filling with wind and pulling you along Bergen’s iconic and beautiful waterfront. Take part in the sailing or chill out on a bean bag and enjoy the ride!

Take a guided City Tour of Bergen

Appreciate why many people consider Bergen to be the most beautiful city in Norway on a relaxing walking tour through the city. As well as receiving fascinating details about the city’s 950-year history, your local guide will provide a true insider’s perspective on its inhabitants, known as the ‘Bergenser’. Starting from the city centre, be enchanted by the maritime charm of the harbor bay, Vågen. Then navigate through the city’s narrow wooden lanes as you get to know the most important sights of Bergen. Walk past the fish market, the theatre, and the old fire station and hear how historical residents, such as Edvard Grieg and Henrik Ibsen, helped shaped Bergen. Continue to the Bryggen district to see its iconic colourful wooden houses. This World Heritage Site is popular with both locals and tourists, housing many lively cafes, restaurants, and bars. Here, learn about how 400 years ago dried cod was stored in Bryggen and exported to throughout Europe, making Bergen the most important trading metropolis in Scandinavia during that time. Discover what the Hanseatic League was, the influence it once had on trading, and how life for the visiting German merchants played out here.
