Day 1

barcelona 2

The trip begins with an early check-in at a UK airport and a flight to vibrant Barcelona, where students will transfer to their accommodation and get their first glimpse of the city's creative energy. Once settled, there's time to wander along La Rambla, the city's iconic tree-lined boulevard that stretches from Plaça de Catalunya to the waterfront at Port Vell. More than just a tourist hotspot, La Rambla is a dynamic urban canvas - alive with street performers, contemporary murals, public sculpture, and architectural contrasts that reflect Barcelona's layered history. This informal first encounter with the city sets the tone for the days ahead, giving students the chance to begin observing public space as artistic expression, and to reflect on how culture, identity, and visual language converge in one of Europe's most creatively charged cities.

Day 2

Gaudi

After breakfast, the day begins with a guided walking tour through Barcelona's historic centre, led by local art specialists. Over the course of 2–3 hours, students explore how the city's architecture, street art, and public spaces reflect shifting artistic movements and cultural identity. In the afternoon, the group visits the striking Barcelona Cathedral, a key example of Gothic architecture that invites reflection on the role of art in spiritual and civic life. The day concludes at La Pedrera (Casa Milà), one of Gaudí's most emblematic works. This visit offers insight into his use of natural forms, symbolic design, and experimental techniques -key themes in the development of Catalan Modernism and beyond.

Day 3

Barcelona

Step into the world of revolutionary art as the day opens with an immersive visit to the Museu Picasso, where over 4,000 early works trace the artist's creative evolution. It's a unique opportunity to delve into the roots of Cubism and explore the foundations of one of modern art's most iconic figures. Following a short transfer across the city, the group continues to the Fundació Miró, home to a bold collection of surrealist and abstract works. Here, students reflect on how Miró's artistic language engages with symbolism, political identity, and experimental forms. In the afternoon, the group heads to Poble Espanyol, an open-air museum showcasing traditional Spanish architecture and culture. Within this creative village is a gallery space featuring over 300 works by Picasso, Dalí, and Miró, offering an ideal setting for comparative analysis of artistic style and context. The visit concludes with a hands-on craft workshop in mediums such as leather, ceramics or enamel, inviting students to engage with materials and techniques that bridge tradition and contemporary practice.

Day 4

Plane

After breakfast, the group transfers to the airport for the return flight to the UK. As the trip comes to a close, students carry with them not only memories of Barcelona's vibrant streets and iconic architecture, but also a deeper understanding of how art, place, and identity intertwine. This journey through Catalan modernism, cubism, surrealism, and traditional craft offers lasting inspiration for their academic and creative paths ahead.
