Day 1

Arrival & Introduction to Ancient Egypt
Arrive in Cairo and transfer to your hotel in Giza or Downtown Cairo for check-in and a quick orientation. In the afternoon, explore the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, home to iconic artefacts like Tutankhamun's treasures, royal mummies, and stunning statues. Learn about Egypt’s material culture and excavation history through a self-guided or led tour with worksheets and sketching.
In the evening, enjoy an optional group dinner at a local restaurant and attend a brief lecture on "The History of Archaeology in Egypt" to kick off your academic adventure.
Day 2

Giza Plateau: Monuments of Power
Spend the morning exploring the Giza Plateau, home to the iconic Great Pyramid of Khufu, along with the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley Temple. Learn about pyramid construction, alignment theories, and mortuary complexes.
In the afternoon, visit the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), if open, or return to the Egyptian Museum or a local archaeological bookstore if not.
In the evening, enjoy an optional Sound & Light Show at the pyramids or spend some free time reflecting on the day’s discoveries.
Day 3

Saqqara & Memphis: Early Dynastic & Experimental Forms
Take a day trip to Saqqara, the vast necropolis of ancient Memphis, where you’ll explore the Step Pyramid of Djoser - the first monumental stone building. Visit the Tombs of Mereruka & Kagemni, with their stunning wall reliefs, and explore the Imhotep Museum on-site.
In the afternoon, head to the Memphis Open-Air Museum, home to the Colossus of Ramses II and the alabaster sphinx. You’ll also discuss the shift from city centre to necropolis.
In the evening, return to Cairo and enjoy an optional Hieroglyphic Writing Workshop at the hotel.
Day 4

Islamic Cairo & Departure
In the morning, visit the Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, followed by a discussion on the conservation of Islamic architecture alongside Egypt’s ancient heritage. Explore the Khan El Khalili Bazaar and Al-Muizz Street, where you’ll witness street archaeology and urban layers in action. There’s also an optional visit to the Gayer-Anderson Museum, showcasing historic artefacts and Mashrabiya architecture.
In the afternoon, enjoy a final group lunch before transferring to the airport for your return flight.
