Day 1

Day 1: Lille and Vimy Ridge


Arrival in Lille: Arrive in Lille, on your transportation preference and schedule.

Lille City Tour: Begin your day with a guided tour of Lille. Explore historical landmarks such as the Old Stock Exchange, Grand Place, and the Lille Cathedral. This will provide context for understanding the impact of World War I on the region.



Travel to Vimy Ridge: After lunch, travel to Vimy Ridge, which is about a 1-hour drive from Lille.

Vimy Ridge Visitor Centre: Visit the Vimy Ridge Visitor Centre. Explore the interactive exhibits and learn about the Battle of Vimy Ridge, a significant engagement during World War I, where Canadian forces achieved a remarkable victory.



Explore Vimy Memorial: Spend some time exploring the Vimy Memorial and its surrounding grounds. Reflect on the sacrifices made by soldiers from Canada and other nations during the war.

Day 2

Day 2: Somme Battlefields


Depart for Somme: Depart from Lille and head to the Somme region, known for its historical significance during World War I. The journey will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.



Thiepval Memorial and Visitor Centre: Visit the Thiepval Memorial and Visitor Centre. Learn about the Battle of the Somme and pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in this devastating conflict.



Trench Warfare Experience: Participate in a guided trench warfare experience at a local site, where students can gain a hands-on understanding of the conditions soldiers faced during World War I.

Day 3

Day 3: Verdun


Travel to Verdun: Depart from Lille and travel to Verdun, which is approximately a 3-hour drive.



Verdun Memorial and Battlefields: Visit the Verdun Memorial and explore the surrounding battlefields. Gain insight into the Battle of Verdun, one of the longest and most brutal battles of World War I, and its enduring impact on the region.



Interactive Workshops: Engage in interactive workshops or educational activities related to World War I history. This could include discussions, presentations, or group projects focused on specific aspects of the conflict.

Day 4

Day 4: Arras and Departure


Arras City Tour: Depart from Verdun and travel to Arras, approximately a 2-hour drive.

Arras Tunnels: Explore the underground tunnels of Arras, which served as shelters and headquarters for soldiers during World War I.



Wellington Quarry: Visit the Wellington Quarry, also known as Carrière Wellington, where soldiers of the British Empire prepared for the Battle of Arras in 1917. Experience a guided tour of the tunnels and learn about the role they played in the war effort.



Departure from Lille: Return to Lille for departure. Depending on the schedule, there may be time for a farewell meal or reflection session before departing.
